Ashes of the Hours

The sun came up slow, like it knew, There's nothing left for light to do. The sky was gray like funeral attire, And silence hummed where laughter froze. I walk through days with hollow feet, Each heartbeat just a drumbeat's cheat. The mirror reflects a stranger's face, Worn down by time I can't replace. Friends died like a dying flame, Some left too soon, some never came. Love was a ghost that passed me by It brushed my cheek, and allowed me to perish.



Dreams danced under my skin once, Now turn into sins that I harbor within. Hope? A dream I once pursued— Now merely a shadow that I dare not confront. They tell me the night gives rise to day, But I have witnessed the dark remain gray. No peace, no dawn, no glorious release— Only painful years that never end. So I sit here, by myself with time, A wounded soul, a rhyme-less rhyme. And if you ask me why I weep— It's 'cause I lived, but not to try.
